Diet Tips

Here are a few diet tips to help you out if you're planning on sticking to your diet. But that "D" word can mean different things to different people. For instance, you may be cutting back on desserts and/or incorporating healthy foods into your life and calling it a diet healthy lifestyle but people will still ask "what diet are you on?" My answer...not on a diet, just trying to live and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

Saying that, the diet word will be used throughout but it doesn't necessarily mean you're trying to loss weight. So, here are some ideas to help you stay on your diet, or avoid adding unwanted pounds, or developing better eating habits, the list can go on.

I'll start the diet tips with some tips that won't cause you to worry about the guilt or adding pounds!

Tip 1

Water. Yup, drink a few glasses of water before dinner because it'll alleviate the need to begin nibbling before the sit down meal commences. It's like they say, "never go food shopping on an empty stomach" - you just don't know what you'll bring home.

Tip 2

If you're the host - prepare a veggie tray with low fat dip. If you're invited to someone's home, perhaps bring a vegetable tray since it's not only healthy but it's a wonderful alternative for others who may be dieting.

Tip 3

Go online! Check out the recipes you can incorporate into your meals and which offer substitutes for high-fat content.
Here's a hint - why not make an angel food cake, top it with berries, and low fat whipped cream. A much healthier substitution than the traditional dessert spread.

Tip 4

This tip is about serving the holiday or special occasion meal. Here's some ideas:

  • serve vegetables along with the holiday turkey (healthy alternative to stuffing)
  • use low fat dressing for the salad
  • a delicious homemade vegetable soup can be prepared as a second course (instead of pasta)

Tip 5

Take a walk with family members or friends after the meal or in between courses. Perhaps a game of touch football in the backyard (weather permiting)!


These are just some diet tips to help you stick to the diet or maintain your healthy eating habits throughout the year!
