Ideas to Get Them Active

Kids and exercise - here are some ideas to get them active because getting kids to exercise is important and may take a certain amount of creativity, but by teaching children about health and the importance of a good diet and exercise program it becomes a natural extension of their home life instead of unpleasant work (chore) they run away from.

So, if it's a struggle when you mention the word "exercise" to the kids and they come up with excuses indicating they have something more important to do, here's a suggestion. If you ask the kids if they'd like to play a game, go swimming or bowling, you may just find that they're the first to have their coats on!

If your kids are of school age, there's no doubt that there are after school programs that offer sports like tennis, basketball or baseball. The school programs not only help your child develop social skills but also keeps them very active. For instance, if your kids are into baseball - perhaps they can join the local little league. Exercise has to be fun for kids and sports clubs are not only fun but educational as well.

If your kids aren't in school quite yet, just remember parents...from an early age kids mimic parent so if you exercise at home utilizing DVDs, your little ones may want to join you if they sense you are having a good time. Also, the more exposed they are to family exercise routines the more likely they will want to participate without encouragement.

So whether you belong to a baseball league or a swimming club, or simply walk or jog with friends, this is a great opportunity to have your kids tag along and get them interested in the various activities.

Make a game or contest out of whatever activity you engage in because...

kids love to compete, especially if their parents are involved!!!
