Healthy Snack Foods
Welcome to the kids section! This section of the site is geared towards the kids (with help from the parents)! With nutritional, diet, and exercise ideas, kids and parents will become educated in the issue of obesity among children.
But to start off…here are some snack ideas. Healthy, of course (sorry kids), so no more after school visits to fast food restaurants that get pricey on the wallet and waistline. So here's the alternative, you can make healthy snack foods at home using a few ingredients that your kids will love. Here are three healthy snack ideas for kids to help you get started. - Mini Pizzas
Ingredients: - Whole Wheat English Muffins
- Low Fat Mozzarella Cheese
- Homemade Pasta Sauce
Directions: Slice the English muffin in half. Top it with a teaspoon of pasta sauce, add a bit of mozzarella cheese and put the halves on a cookie sheet. Bake in oven until muffin is brown and cheese has melted. Believe it or not, this tastes even better than regular pizza. - Vegetable Dip
Ingredients: - Assortment of Vegetables
- Plain Non-fat Yogurt
- Lemon Juice
- Pure Virgin Olive Oil
- Dill
Directions: Cut up an assortment of vegetables into sticks such as carrots, cucumbers, and celery. Add broccoli flowers, string beans, and cauliflower hearts and place them on a tray. Take two containers of plain non-fat yogurt and add a tablespoon of lemon juice, a tablespoon of pure virgin olive oil, two teaspoons of dill, and a pinch of salt. Mix and put into a bowl in the center of the tray. When your kids come home from school, they can have a nutritious and delicious snack. - A Carrot and Apple Smoothie
Ingredients: - Carrot
- Apple
- Plain Yogurt
Directions: Take one carrot and one apple, and cut them up into slices. Take a half cup of plain yogurt and add all ingredients in blender, then process until smooth. Note: You can use a variety of fruits and vegetables when making any type of smoothie. You can also substitute non-fat milk in place of yogurt. There are a variety of healthy snacks you can make for your kids - you have probably even tried many of them yourself. This is the first step in teaching your kids how to eat healthy but also introduces them to new foods prepared in a variety of ways. [top] ------ Here's what you'll find in the kids section.
